The inception of TH Plastics traces back to 1973 when Ted Haas, a seasoned veteran of the plastics industry with 34 years under his belt, retired from the Haas Corporation. At that time, he was approached by two former salesmen from The Haas Corporation who had promising prospects of securing new business, involving thermoset parts for stoves and ovens. Concurrently, another opportunity arose when a former colleague in the industry mentioned potential business that would be coming to market later in the year. Encouraged by these prospects and with the support of old friends, Ted and Jane Haas embarked on their entrepreneurial journey in 1974 by establishing TH Plastics. They acquired a property on Main Street in Mendon, Michigan, originally owned by the Ford Motor Company, marking the inception of TH Plastics.
The initial setup comprised four vertical hydraulic transfer and compression presses tailored for molding thermoset materials, operated with the assistance of a small team comprising family and friends. In 1976, their eldest son Patrick joined as a sales representative. Over the subsequent five years, Patrick expanded the clientele base, necessitating the company’s entry into injection molding of thermoplastics. To accommodate this expansion, an industrial building dedicated to molding was annexed to the original Ford building.
In 1992, Patrick assumed the role of President, succeeding Ted, who continued to serve on the board of directors until his passing in 2004. Many family members have helped contribute to TH’s success over the years. Presently, TH Plastics is under its third-generation leadership, with Chris Haas, Ted’s grandson, serving as the CEO and President. Under Chris’s stewardship and the support of their management team, TH Plastics has proliferated to encompass four molding and assembly facilities, employing over 800 individuals and has become a leader in the industry.
